Goodeinae JORDAN, 1923 (for lennoni)

In its natural environment this species inhabits small quickly-flowing rivers which have a luxurious growth of algae.

Ilyodon whitei (lennoni) is easy to keep. However, a regular water change is important. The water temperature should stay between 24 °C and 28 °C. The water should be hard with a pH value between 7 and 9.

The food demands of Ilyodon whitei (lennoni) are modest, with flakes, frozen and live food of all kinds being accepted. A vegetable portion should be included in the diet. Any algae in the aquarium will become an additional source of food.

Since this species lives a more secluded life than for example Ilyodon furcidens, it is beneficial to provide sufficient hiding places in the aquarium, such as plants, stone constructions and roots.

Breeding succeeds with little assistance. Around 20 fry are delivered which can be as much as 15-20 mm long. Due to the large size raising the fry is without trouble.

When Ilyodon whitei (lennoni) is kept in a species tank, the younger generations increase naturally, since the older animals do not chase their young.
