Characodon spec. Abraham Gonzales was collected by IVAN DIBBLE (?). The name refers to the nearby town of Abraham Gonzales close to the place of discovery. The location is approximately 30 km northwest of the type locality of Characodon audax. At present there is a question whether this is a new Goodeid species or, as some hobbyists believe, a hybrid of Characodon audax and Characodon lateralis. This possibility cannot be ignored since both the shape of the body as well as the size is identical with Characodon audax. However, one difference is that the black-pigmented parts of Characodon audax are red in Characodon spec. Abraham Gonzales. Characodon spec.
