English name: Spotted Goodeid Family: Goodeidae JORDAN, 1923. Subfamily: Goodeinae JORDAN, 1923. Original description: ALVAREZ, J. (1963): Ictiologia Michoacána. 3. Los peces de San Juanico y de Tocumbo, Mich. Ann. Esc. Nac. Cienc. Biol. 12 (1 - 4): pp. 111 - 138. Derivation of the species name: peraticus (Greek) = alien. Type locality: San Juanico, Cotija: Michoacán, Mexiko. Meristic properties: Dorsal fin = 13-15 rays; Anal fin = 14-16 rays; Pectoral fin = 14-16 rays; BRIAN KABBES observed this species in 1998 in Mexico. In his opinion it is uncertain, whether it is a real species or rather it is the same as Chapalichthys pardalis. Chapalichthys peraticus occurs in the south-western part of the Chapala lake. The well-known type locality at Laguna (Presa) San Juanico is critically endangered as a consequence of human activity. Large parts of the marshy area were drained in order to cultivate sugar-cane. This species has been found approximately 25 kilometres north-west of Laguna San Juanico (in the proximity of Jaripo). Because of the pattern covering their bodies, Chapalichthys peraticus reminds one strongly of Chapalichthys pardalis. The variation among the population was only small and limited to minor differences in the spots covering the fish. The proportion of the sexes might have been 50/50. The population density was rather low however. Taken from: Aqualog publishing company Title: all Livebearers and Halfbeaks, Photo by: E.
